Letterkenny based beauty blogger Leslie Magee from Beauty Marked Minds shares her style secrets with Donegal Woman.
My blog is my little sliver of the internet where I unveil what I am most passionate about (In reality this is ALL dedicated to beauty and yoga)! After months of quibbling with myself I decided to take the leap and create this blog.
My main element that encouraged me to start blogging was my rocky relationship with bulimia nervosa which became evident when I chose a wrong career path. Being in these toxic surroundings revealed to me everything about what I didn’t want in life. I didn’t look on this experience as an anchor whatsoever. Fortunately,I used this experience as an opportunity for self-growth.
Check out my blog for tips to create a pretty face and a beautiful mind!

How would you describe your personal style?
I rock tea dresses, I wear leather leggings, I can be found in almost anything! But if I HAD to describe my style, it would probably be quite classic. My style reflects how I’m feeling. I could be rocking 5 inch heels or cuddled in yoga pants. Balance!
Who is your style icon?
As I mentioned I adore classic looks. So shift skirts and frilly blouses would be my go to. I think Holly Willoughby always looks fabulous, her looks are timeless. She embraces her curves and looks extremely comfortable in her own skin.
What is your favourite piece of clothing?
My black blazer. It can be dressed up or worn casual. I love universal pieces that can take you from day to night. This best thing about a black blazer is that it can be paired with jeans/leggings or worn over a dress.
What inspires you when choosing an outfit?
This sounds ludicrous, but when I clean out my wardrobe I get inspired. I find an abundance of old favourites and I instantly start creating outfits. Seriously, instead of going on that shopping spree get hoking in your wardrobe.
How would you accessorise a look?
Pearl earrings and a nude lip.
What is your most recent fashion purchase?
I love Over The Knee boots, especially for Winter so I purchased a grey and black pair of OTK River Island boots a few weeks ago. I keep convincing myself that these are essentials.
Where do you usually shop for clothing?
Topshop has always been my ride or die shop, there’s also really affordable pieces in H&M that are fab for work.
Do you have any favourite local fashion boutiques?
The Sequin Cinderella has amazing items in store. I wish I had a more hectic social life to wear some of the gorgeous pieces.
What are your wardrobe staples?
Beige high-waist trousers, a versatile/ warm coat (mummy was always right!) and a comfortable pair of heels.
Do you follow trends?
I did when I was younger and I cringe now looking back at gold satin shorts. Now I tend to just wear what makes me feel good about myself. If I like a particular piece of clothing I’ll wear it, irregardless if people think I look horrific.
Heels or flats?
Heels, heels, heels! I had an accident a few weeks ago so now I’m stuck in trainers which is not ideal. When you’re not even 5ft a heel makes you look like an actual adult.
Shoes or handbags?
Shoes! The only thing that will always fit.
What is the best piece of fashion advice you’ve ever heard?
Only buy a bargain if you completely adore it. Don’t buy it just because it’s ‘On Sale’. The amount of garments I have in my wardrobe with the sale tag is surreal.
What has been your best investment piece?
My DKNY tote, it’s my baby. It’s neutral and goes with everything.
What’s the wackiest item you own?
When I was in college I did work placement in the operating theater in the hospital. A pair of the scrubs that is worn on the ward suspiciously ended up in my wash basket. I still treasure these as the comfiest piece of lounge-wear I own. Yes, I look like Annie Wilkes but comfort is key ladies!
If you could wear only one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I love dresses and I seem to always be in black so a LBD, how unique
What has been your biggest fashion faux-pas?
Flat-forms!!!!!!!!!! I was adamant to purchase a pair in every colour. The worst was a coral velour pair. Why did my friends allow me outside the door with those orange blocks on my feet?!
If money wasn’t a factor, what would you buy?
Brown Thomas, fingers crossed dreams come true.
How do you feel when you’re in your favourite outfit?
I feel like I can take on the world. I don’t think there is a comparable feeling when you look in the mirror and feel pride and confidence. It’s imperative that us ladies wear what we like and what we feel comfortable in. There’s nothing worse than wearing a crop top and your self-criticizing twin starts her nonsense when you glance in the mirror. Always wear what makes you happy, cheesy I know!
