This is going to be so fetch.
Here’s something to look forward to in 2017 – the Mean Girls Musical is actually happening!
The release date is just perfect too – October 3rd, 2017. When else?
The production is scheduled to open at the National Theatre in Washington DC.
Tina Fey, who wrote the screenplay for the original Mean Girls has been busy penning the musical, along with her husband, composer Jeff Richmond, and Broadway’s Legally Blonde lyricist Nell Benjamin Hollywood Reporter.
Some of the songs reportedly written for the who include She Doesn’t Even Go Here, You Can’t Sit With Us and On Wednesdays We Wear Pink.
Casting has not yet begun for the stage show, but is expected to happen at this start of this year. The original cast of the 2004 Mean Girls classic is yet not known to be making an appearance. Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lizzy Caplan, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried and Tina Fey were just some of the stars who made Mean Girls as magical as it was.
It is hoped that the musical will make its way to Broadway after the Washington debut. Back in 2007, Tina Fey said: “I thought the movie, in some ways, mostly appealed to young girls and gay men, and I feel like that could be a recipe for success on Broadway.”
Here’s hoping for a world tour, or else we’ll be booking flights this autumn!
