CCTV installation will be considered for Letterkenny Town Park after a shocking incident at the beginning of the New Year.
Donegal County Councillor Gerry Mc Monagle has called for CCTV to be introduced to the Bernard Mc Glinchey Park after the latest act of anti-social behaviour in which a saw child’s slide was smeared with excrement.
The Councillor raised the motion at yesterday’s Municipal District meeting in Letterkenny and said he is pleased with the response he received from Council Officials and fellow councillors.
Cllr Mc Monagle received the full support of his colleagues when he demanded that council find the necessary funding to erect CCTV at the park to deter further incidents of anti-social behaviour.
He told the meeting “The safety of our children whilst playing in our parks must be paramount”
“As a result of my motion council officials have now agreed to come back to a workshop in early February with costings for CCTV but more importantly to identify a stream of funding to enable the installation of CCTV at the Bernard Mc Glinchey Town Park.
“I will continue to work with council officials on this issue to ensure that CCTV is installed at the Bernard Mc Glinchey Town Park in order to enhance the safety of the park’s visitors and to act as a deterrent to anti-social behaviour at the park,” added Cllr McMonagle.
