RTE Presenter Claire Byrne has announced that she is expecting a baby.
The current affairs reporter and analyst revealed that she will be welcoming her third child in summer 2017.
Claire has two young children – a boy and a girl aged three and two – so she will have a busy home by the end of this year.
The 41-year-old revealed to Independent.ie that she had been suffering from severe morning sickness but is now doing well and looking forward to lightening up her workload and preparing for the new arrival.
Claire married Gerry Scollan last July. Gerry, an IT engineer, comes from a big family and wanted the same, Claire said. “The number in his head was always four – but I’ll stick with three as good compromise,” Claire told the Independent.
She is keeping the gender of her baby a surprise for now and said her priority is having a healthy baby.
Claire presents the topical debate programme Claire Byrne Live on RTE1 and Saturday with Claire Byrne on RTE Radio 1. She said she expects to return to work quickly after her pregnancy, and while discussing the topic of women having children at a later age she said the decision was ‘all very personal’.
“I feel really lucky that this is the way my life has worked out… I had reached a point where I thought that I really wouldn’t have children in my life,” she said.
