Irish oat producers Flahavan's are hosting a Free Porridge Day this weekend.
Donegal shoppers can pick up some of the 200,000 free packs of porridge oats being made available nationwide by Flahavan’s in partnership with RTÉ and Operation Transformation’s Free Porridge Day this Saturday, 28th January.
Two hundred thousand packets equals to 3 million bowls of porridge – that’s a lot of healthy breakfasts! From overnight oats, oatmeal cookies, pancakes to oat-based face masks – there are so many things you can make and do with the freebie pack.
There will be a specially-produced, limited edition RTÉ Operation Transformation Flahavan’s porridge pack available for the occasion. The 500g packs will be distributed nationwide through supermarkets, SuperValu, Tesco, EuroSpar and Dunnes Stores. Consumers will have to scan their pack at the checkout, allowing one per shopper per household to ensure fair distribution. Consumers are advised to visit stores early to receive their pack.
RTÉ Operation Transformation Free Porridge Day is an initiative by the show to promote porridge oats as a healthy and affordable food that is accessible to everybody in Ireland. “There are many reasons why porridge is the best breakfast food especially if you wish to control weight,” said Professor Donal O’Shea, an Operation Transformation expert.
“Porridge oats will not only help you feel fuller for longer but they will also kick-start your metabolism and make it work more efficiently. Young or old, oats are good for everyone in the family. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for your health – and porridge is the best start,” he said.
And if you really love porridge, you can also enter a competition to win a year’s supply. “All you have to do is post a picture of your Flahavan’s Limited Edition pack porridge pack with #OperationOats on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to be in with a chance of winning.
