St Mary’s NS, Stranorlar pupil Emily Kelly finished in third place at the Millrose Games in New York at the weekend.
The Donegal schoolgirl won the ‘Ireland’s Fastest Feet’ title in December after coming through the county heats and got the chance to compete at the Millrose Games on Saturday.
Emily was in the company of world famous and many legends of the sport at the Games, including Ireland’s own Eamonn Coghlan. who had recorded famous victories at this venue on many occasions.
Emily was representing her school, who had given her a grand send-off the previous Wednesday.
She was Ireland’s representative in a 55m race to find out who was the fastest. She finished third in 8.97 seconds. Briana Burrell from Velocity Track Club (8.70) and Brianna Kennedy (8.92) from Panthers Track Club were in the top two places.
Her mum and dad, Anne-Marie and David, and her sister, Maria, accompanied her on the trip.
Kildare lad Bernard Ibirogba came with a late surge to win the boys’ race by just one thousandth of a second in 8.41.
