A special charity is seeking volunteers in Donegal to support women going through cancer treatment.
The Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) programme is a fun volunteering opportunity for people in the beauty industry. Volunteers host pamper workshops for women to improve the wellbeing and self-confidence of women undergoing treatment for any type of cancer.
Makeup artists, beauticians and massage therapists in Donegal are being asked to donate just a few hours a year to give masterclasses in Letterkenny University Hospital.
Workshops take up to two hours and participants receive a full gift bag of makeup and cosmetics to take home. There are up to 12 women in any one class.
Two volunteers currently work in the Donegal area, but there has been a new call to expand the team and ensure that the classes will continue.
This hugely rewarding opportunity for beauty therapists allows them to help other women feel better about themselves as they deal with the visible side effects of cancer treatment. Workshops are free for patients to attend. Upcoming dates at LUH in 2017 are: 21st Mar, 25th Apr, 16th May, 13th June.
For once, women look forward to visiting the hospital for these are fun and informative workshops. If you are undergoing cancer treatment and interested in attending, you can contact your oncology nurse or the Daffodil Centre in the hospital where you are a patient and ask about Look Good Feel Better.
Sligo-based volunteer Muireann O’Connor Mc Dermott posted a video to Facebook calling for Donegal volunteers last night, and the charity said it has had an overwhelming response already.
If you’re a qualified make-up artist or beauty therapist and would like to help run the workshops in Letterkenny, visit www.lookgoodfeelbetter.ie or text 087 7008366.
