Stylist Breid McDaid checks out the hottest print-du-jour and gives a guide to wearning gingham.
Traditional gingham has taken on a new lease of life for SS17. Gone are the days when the print was only seen on pieces of school uniform-we can all remember those nostalgia-laced summer dresses that came with a matching scrunchie. Mind you, those scrunchies are now top of the list for that 90’s revival kit.
These small -scale checks are proving to be print and pattern favourites. A pattern statement we have come to find across a wide range of product categories, from bardot off the shoulder blouses (a firm favourite), to anything from shirts, mini -skirts, crop tops and dresses.
This trend screams arrival of Summer and instantly injects some fun and femininity at a time a wardrobe needs it most.
Slightly larger multicolour-but-tonal checks look strong for casual daywear while oversized ginghams and blanket checks are powerful options for outerwear.
With details such as exaggerated sleeves, ruffles/frills and delicate ribbon ties, vibes are a perfect mix of pretty meets playful.
And remember, accessories are always a great way of incorporating a particular trend in your style diaries if you’re not feeling overly committed, and can be equally as effective in achieving the desired look.
So why not leave all hesitations and reservations behind and give this gingham craze the benefit of the doubt this Spring/Summer?!
Until next time,
