The senior women of Letterkenny A.C. have been named as silver medalists of the National Road Relays after a shocking disqualification announcement yesterday
Athletes Nakita Burke, Annmarie McGlynn and Noeleen Scanlan finished third in their event at the highly prestigious Irish Life Health National Road Relay Championships in Raheny, Dublin on Sunday.
However, in an unprecedented turn of events they have been upgraded to second place after the first place winners were disqualified.
Queen’s University were knocked out of the competition after it emerged that the team included an athlete who was allegedly not a member of QUB AC.
UCD stepped up to become the champions, with the Letterkenny trio Nakita, Annmarie and Noeleen coming in second. The team’s overall time on Sunday was 21.15.
The LAC Masters’ women’s team, comprising of runners Irene McFadden, Ann Marie McGlynn and Monica McGranaghan, picked up Gold in their event.
