Donegal musician Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh has shared her delight to learn that the cost of repairing a broken 19th century fiddle covered by Dublin Airport Authority.
The DAA have accepted responsibility and have committed to covering the costs of the antique Haley Richardson fiddle which had been given to her by her late father, Prionsias.
Altan star Mairéad was traveling to the Shetland Islands to record when the fiddle fell to the floor at the security desk in Dublin Airport, while a bespoke mute trinket, also given to her by a fellow musician, has gone missing.
Mairéad has revealed that DAA are going to cover the costs and says her ‘faith in humanity has been restored’.
Posting on Facebook she said: “Great news everyone….the Dublin Airport Authority have accepted responsibility and are going to cover costs of breakage of my precious fiddle.
“My faith in humanity has been restored.
“Thank you for all your words of knowledge, advice and support.
“It has been an ordeal.”
