There will be a special focus on local food champion Chris Molloy and The Lemon Tree Restaurant on RTE One tonight. We have a taster of what to expect from the show:
The Lemon Tree has been under the spotlight ever since it opened in a new location at the Courtyard Shopping Centre in Letterkenny. Tonight we will see the restaurant in centre focus on primetime TV during the opening episode of Donal’s Meals in Minutes.
The new cookery series with the celebrity chef Donal Skehan on RTE One at 8.30pm will teach viewers everything they know about modern meals.
Each week Donal will be showcasing Ireland’s most interesting modern chefs and their take on modern cooking.
Chef Chris Molloy is the first to be profiled, and his feature celebrates the best of Donegal food and its top-quality producers.
Artful scenes of the new-look Lemon Tree showcase dishes by Chris and his brothers as well as the new interiors. Viewers will also get a glimpse of local suppliers at the Ballyholey Farm Shop and Gildea Butchers.
Chris will be sharing how he finds the best producers to match the amazing scenery of Donegal with equally breathtaking food.
As a Failte Ireland Food Champion, Chris will be talking about what makes Donegal food important to him. The Lemon Tree uses over 20 producers as they look to Donegal first for good quality ingredients.
Chris will cook up two delicious looking dishes for the cameras – a charred cauliflower dish and a lamb rump dish.
The show also features a preview of the Taste of Donegal Wild Atlantic Way Menu – a five course tasting dish launching soon in the eatery which will contain all Donegal-produced dishes.
Donal Skehan celebrates Chris’ use of fresh local ingredients as an example of what he loves most about modern food. Lee Gildea of Gildea Butchers and Melissa at Ballyholey Farm also feature in the celebration of fresh local food.
The Lemon Tree has long been at the forefront of the Donegal food scene. The business is run by the Molloy family, with the three brothers in the kitchen, along with their two sisters Linda and Trudy and their cousins also working front of house.
As well as the Lemon Tree feature, tonight’s programme will see Donal cooking up one pot and one pan meals.
Dishes will include a one pan pasta which has racked up over 2 million views across the world on Donal’s youtube channel and Saltimbocca A La Romana.
Donal will be using his skills to give viewers a bullet proof guide to quick cooking, using one pan dinners, 5 ingredient suppers and shop bought cheat meals.
Nutritionist Paula Mee will provide nutritional information for each dish allowing viewers to make better food choices.
Donal Skehan’s ‘Meals in Minutes’ starts on RTÉ One June 6th at 8.30pm
