Here at La Maison we know that our sunny days might be few and far between even during the summer so we should be embrace these fleeting moments. Sunshine is good for the soul, and makes everyone feel lighter and brighter, so we should be inviting it into our homes as much as we can, and creating a bright summer haven.

Try these three simple, and achievable, steps to help bring the light in…

1 Let the light in!

Open your windows and throw back your curtains! What feels cosy and comforting in the dark winter months, can suddenly feel claustrophobic and oppressive when the sun is shining outside.

It might sound simple, but you’d be amazed at the extra light that will filter in by pushing your curtains back a couple of inches. This might be achieved by simply drawing them further apart, or by using a wider curtain pole to completely minimise the amount of glass being covered by fabric.

The extra light will immediately give the room a more spacious, airier feel.

2. Pack away the winter wardrobe!

Summers’ more relaxed, casual and upbeat feel is reflected in how we dress ourselves.

We are drawn to bright sherbet colours, and light breezy fabrics, so why not translate this into how we dress our home. It can be small, subtle changes, maybe just a simple splash of colour with a change of cushion covers, a display of fresh wild flowers or swapping out some of our decorative accessories, but it can have a powerful impact.

3. Get a room!

The best thing about a sunny day is the extra useable space you gain for relaxing and entertaining, by extending your home into your garden and outside space.
