Triona Nic Meanaman, Lisa Dalton, Emma McGee and Catherine Regan became the first women's team to complete the Donegal Atlantic Way Ultra Cycle Race!
Their team, Team Tri Quads, won the ladies’ section overall, and are the first ladies’ team to complete the enormous 555km cycle around Donegal’s rugged coastline.
Speaking to Donegal Woman, Triona says “We were all keen for a new and exciting challenge… none of us had done such a long distance endurance event and as there was never a ladies team to compete in this before we decide to take it on.
“We’ve all been involved in either duathlons or triathlons in the last few years and this was a step up.
“We’ve put in a lot of hours on the bike and in the gym in the last few months, practicing on the toughest hills in Ireland and we’re absolutely over the moon it all paid off.
“It was a team effort start to finish. The cyclists and crew were unbelievable.”
Sponsored by the Shandon Hotel, Team Tri Quads crossed the finish line with an incredible time of 19 hours and 42 minutes.
The team have thanked their crew, manager Paddy McGee, drivers Jim, Eamon, Derbhla, Christie, and their sponsor The Shandon Hotel. They also send a massive thanks to everyone on the route messaging, helping, cheering, supporting, and pushing them on.
Triona adds “It was the most difficult and rewarding event I have ever done.
“Well done Shaun, Sean and team! Thanks coach Aidan and thanks to everyone who lent us gear!
“Congratulations to everyone who tackled the challenge.”
