Here's a throwback to a very romantic moment by the sea for National Kissing Day
Did you know today was a designated day for smooching? National Kissing Day is observed every year on July 6th, and could give some people a bit of encouragement to show the love to their other halves. It might also give people an excuse to go in for that first kiss, you never know!
The Donegal County Museum has unearthed a very sweet painting to celebrate the holiday. A postcard from the museum’s archive comes from Buncrana and shows a well-to-do couple having a good old canoodle by the seaside.
“I’ve got rid of all the others, this is the only pebble on the beach for me at Buncrana,” the caption says.
Caroline Carr tells Donegal Woman that this postcard would have been sent in the late 1800s or early 1900s. These postcards were sold in seaside towns around Donegal such as Bundoran and Buncrana.
“I thought it was cute and when I saw the trending topic today I decided to get involved and share this.
“I think that picture would have been a bit risque back in those days!,” Caroline said.
