10-year-old Andrea Slevin from Knock, Ballybofey, has had an incredibly exciting week as she has been selected to be a Rosebud for the upcoming Rose of Tralee Festival!
Each year, 64 of Ireland’s loveliest little ladies are chosen to participate alongside the Roses in Kerry.
When Andrea and mum Anna put her name forward in April, they never dreamt that she would be selected.
“It’s a dream come true. I am really looking forward to taking part in the parades and spending time with the Roses for the week,” beams Andrea.
Andrea will accompany the Southern California Rose, Ms Claire McManamon during the week of the festival. Originally from Mayo, 24-year-old GAA fan Claire is working as an accountant in sunny Southern California with Glanbia.
Andrea and her 63 Rosebud friends will be treated to VIP treatment throughout the week; they will get to don their very own sash, take part in the parade, and even attend a glitzy exclusive party with the Roses.
The much anticipated Rose of Tralee Festival begins today, with Roses, Rosebuds, and Escorts having a jam-packed schedule until the crowning cabaret on Tuesday.
Beginning in 2009, Rosebuds were selected to include the younger generation as they bloom into potential Roses.
Excited for her week in Kerry, Andrea will be spending the week with mum and dad Anna and Drew, and little sister Leona.
Andrea says she is also looking forward to meeting Donegal Rose, Amy Kate Callaghan, and wishes her all the best in the competition.
Perhaps in another few years Andrea will don the Donegal sash!
