Donegal man Daniel McLaughlin was an unexpected star of the Rose of Tralee selection show last night in Co. Kerry when he was made a finalist for Escort of the Year.
Daniel, who is a carpenter from Buncrana, was representing the South Australia and Cavan Roses in the 58th annual festival.
He certainly impressed in his duties as he was picked out as one of the top three escorts of 2017.
Appearing on stage last night in the dome, Daniel was quick to point out all the work he had been putting into fulfilling his role.
Host Daithi O Se said: “You are treating them very well, I believe.”
Daniel admits: “Yeah I am. Jees I’m kilt hi!… it hasn’t been easy.”
“Look at the big happy head on that fella,” Daithi remarks. Daniel did look very pleased with himself we have to say!
Daniel missed out on the €1,000 cash prize and title, which went to Thomas Lynch, but he’s sure to be a home hero to many after this appearance.
In his escort profile, Daniel said he is currently working on high rise apartments in Manchester.
As well as being a carpenter, he has a passion for health and hopes to pursue a career in natural medicine. Culture and travel are among his interests, but he keeps his home county close to his heart.
“Above all I love my roots and enjoy trips to the hills of Donegal where the kettle is always on the boil,” Daniel said.
Daniel was sponsored by McLaughlin Taylor Drylining.
