Donegal residents are being warned to not open their doors to unsolicited visits from people purporting to be from the Department of Health.
The fraudsters have been visiting homes in the Finn Valley area pretending to be from the Department of Health and have been asking people for sensitive information.
These scammers can also change their story as they move from area to area – so be on the look out for any suspicious visitors.
A text alert has been issued to warn people of the dodgy housecalls.
Cllr Patrick McGowan tells Donegal Daily that people need to be aware of the situation and to report any suspicious activity to Gardaí.
“There are so many ongoing scams at the moment. Everyone needs to watch out for the phone scams and computers, and they forget that these people can turn up in reality. A notice has gone out in Finn Valley and Lifford asking people to keep a look out. The problem is, it is not far for them to travel to other areas of Donegal too.
“It is important that people know so as they can be on their guard.
“This also shows how important it is for people to sign up for these text alerts – the more people sign up, the less room for these boys to hide.”
To sign up to the text alert in the Castlefin/Finn Valley/Killygordon area, visit the CPI Centre or any of the local Post Offices. Text alerts are also available in the Ballybofey and Stranorlar area.
To report suspicious activity call Letterkenny Gardaí on 074 9167100 or Milford Gardaí on 074 9153067.
Investigations are ongoing.
