Frances Spears of Mourne Antiques and Amelia’s is celebrating 25 years in business this year, which makes Christmas 2017 a particularly special occasion.

Mourne Antiques and Amelia’s are hosting a Traditional Festive Evening in their stores on Main Street Letterkenny on Thursday 23rd November.

The event will be a fantastic opportunity for Frances to thank her loyal customers and give great discounts to all shoppers. There will be 20% off all purchases paid for between 5 and 8pm. There is also 10% off all purchases paid for in Amelia’s – perfect for Christmas gifts!

Frances’ story is a vintage tale of hard work and clever finds…

Mourne Antiques began in Letterkenny back in 1992, when Frances moved her shop from Strabane to Letterkenny. It all truly began in 1981 when Frances’s mother Teresa Spears, opened the antique shop ‘Diamond Curios’ in the front room of her home in Lifford.

Frances picked up her mother’s eye for beautiful gems, antique items and diamond jewellery. She set up her own shop at 8 Port Road, Letterkenny where she stayed for 22 years.

The shop has always had an eclectic mix of stock that drew an interesting mix of customers. Frances then branched out into selling Irish crafts from local makers and artists, creating a keen interest in unique handmade items.

Amelia’s, Irish Design & Gifts arose from this element of the shop. Now located across from Mourne Antiques newest location on the Main Street, the beautiful Amelia’s displays a wonderful range of crafts made locally and from all over the country.

Frances’ amazing finds have built up a loyal customer base for her over the years and she is always welcoming new faces into her store.

Mourne Antiques has recently welcomed a new member of staff, Keith Stevenson, who is a well-known face on the Main Street – having just come from CT Ball Jewellers after many years of good service there. Frances is delighted to have him working with the jewellery that Mourne Antiques is famous for.
