Century Complex last night hosted a special screening of the multi-Oscar nominated film ‘Lady Bird’.
Almost 100 guests were treated to the Century experience at Backstage Bar & Grill last night before seeing the critically acclaimed ‘Lady Bird’ ahead of the official national release.
The event was an opportunity for Century Complex owner Mark Doherty to showcase the wide range of facilities available at the cinema for schools, businesses and groups.
Aside from showing the latest blockbusters in luxurious and modern screens, Mr Doherty outlined how the cinema is also available for corporate hire, for social events and charity fundraisers. He discussed the many catering options available with the new Backstage Bar & Grill and revealed plans to develop more meeting and function rooms in the Complex.
The cinema hosts many live broadcasts from events all over the world, which appeals to students studying Shakespeare, as well as avid theatre and opera fans.
One such exclusive event brought Greta Gerwig’s ‘Lady Bird’ to the big screen last night. The much-loved coming-of-age comedy-drama has 12 Oscars/BAFTA/Golden Globes nominations and 2 Golden Globes wins, and it’s Irish release is much-anticipated due to Saoirse Ronan’s success.
Saoirse stars as Christine ‘Lady Bird’ McPherson, a teenager who just wants to ‘live through something’. The audience joins her as she lives, loves and learns through the Catholic education system, through family troubles and fledgling relationships.
The film captures the fear, fun and frustration of life as a teenager which is relatable to all.
It is also a ‘love letter’ to the setting of Sacramento, California, celebrating the charms of the community along with its troubles. Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf shine in their honest and blemished depiction of a mother-daughter relationship, which has earned them both Oscar nominations.
Lady Bird opens at Century Cinemas on Friday 23rd February. For bookings and information on all events and facilities at Century Complex, visit www.centurycinemas.ie
