Watch: Donegal schoolgirl delivers powerful St. Patrick’s Day performance
We dare you to watch the video to the end and not get goosebumps!
The voice of local singer Katie McCarthy’s rang out through Letterkenny to open the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations on Saturday. Thanks to a video filmed by her proud father, Katie’s take on the national anthem can still be heard and enjoyed by people all over the county and beyond.
The 12-year-old from Cloghan confidently took to the main stage this March 17th to sing Amhrán na bhFiann for the town. A pupil of SN Taobhoige and Blue Ribbon student, Katie’s vocals amazed the crowd and earned a huge applause from the public and guests.
Her proud dad Jimmy McCarthy filmed the performance, and revealed that Katie had just one day to perfect her performance:
“Katie was approached through her school, SN Taobhoige, asking if she would sing Amhrán na bhFiann at the opening of the 2018 St.Patrick’s Day parade, Letterkenny, Co.Donegal.
“Katie jumped at the chance, knowing this was such an honour to be asked, but knew she only had 24 hours to practice. As the parade starting time approached, so did the excitement,” Jimmy said.
