A Donegal hotel has decided to cancel a royal wedding themed event after complaints from some members of the public.
The Inishowen Gateway Hotel in Buncrana has planned to host an afternoon tea-style function to celebrate the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle this Saturday.
The event was recently announced on Facebook, but hotel management cancelled the party yesterday following angry calls made by republicans, the Belfast Telegraph reports.
The hotel announced on Facebook “The event planned for Saturday, May 19, will no longer be taking place and we would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any offence caused.”
“As one of Donegal’s most recognised hotels we are committed to ensuring we offer our guests a quality and memorable experience.”
Meanwhile, RTE has had to defend their plans to air the royal wedding after complaints that it was not relevant to the national broadcaster. An RTE spokesperson told the Belfast Telegraph that the coverage would not be procured at any cost, and RTE will provide its own commentary.
Here on #RTEOne we will be showing #TheRoyalWedding on Saturday May 19th. Prince Harry & Meghan Markle will exchange their vows at St. George's Chapel, Windsor. ??????@MauraDerrane @Darrenken @evelyn_orourke
