The students and staff of Finn Valley College Stranorlar have completed a creative community project which welcomed local women to the school for painting classes.
Every Friday, the ladies of the Parish ‘Friday Club’ attended Art Workshops in the secondary school ran by the Class Keane LCA 1, SNA Cathal Porter under the guidance of Art teacher Maryann Molloy.
The result of the 10 week programme was beautiful paintings, enjoyable conversations and the formation of new friendships.
Some of the women had never painted before. Through the workshops, they were guided to create their own masterpieces and gained valubale skills to continue on with the hobby.
Ms Molloy said: “This has been a great journey, the students have enjoyed every moment of this initiative from helping the ladies mix paint, pick which paint brush would be the right ‘one’ or chat about the weather.
“The atmosphere was relaxed to say the least and the ladies are all truly an inspiration to everyone, to get out and do something you might have always wanted to do, but never had time to do it… as McGuinness said ‘Commit, Focus, Believe, Achieve’ and they did.”
The end of the course was celebrated with some much-appreciated presentations to thank the everyone for their work on the enjoyable experience.
