Beautician Roisin Gallagher is championing a message of animal safety and charity awareness as she competes for the Miss Earth NI 2018 crown this summer.
Roisin from Falcarragh has entered the Richmond Centre Miss Earth environmental beauty pageant to advocate her passion for the prevention of animal cruelty.
The 19 year old works full time as a Beauty Therapist in her own salon, ‘Roisin’s Beauty Bar’, where all her products are cruelty free.
Roisin told Donegal Woman: “My main advocacy for this pageant is for the prevention of animal cruelty. I use only cruelty free and vegan products in my salon.
“Also, Ireland is Europe’s puppy farming capital and I hope to raise awareness of this and to encourage people to adopt and don’t shop.
“My favourite local charity is Animals in Need Donegal and I try to contribute to this charity as much as possible.”
Roisin is now looking forward to the Miss Earth NI final on 28th July at the Waterside Theatre in Derry. After the eventual Northern Ireland eco-beauty winner is crowned, they will join over 90 country winners vying for the chance to become an Ambassador for environmental protection campaigns worldwide and hoping to win and bring the Miss Earth 2018 crown home.
The NI finalists will be working closely together to support charities, including ‘Beauties for A Cause UK’ and The Playtrail in Derry.
The Playtrail is a charity that is close to Roisin’s heart, she said:
“I also entered this competition and the competition as its main charity is the Play Trail in Derry. The play trail is a charity which helps children with learning disabilities learn and helps them find jobs.
“I understand these children’s difficulties on a personal level as I too suffer with a learning disability which is dyslexia which is very much neglected within the Irish educational system, so I discovered the hard way.
“I like to raise awareness on this topic for this charity and children like me growing up!”
