Netflix has announced that they are bringing back the award-winning Anne with an E, starring Donegal actress Amybeth McNulty, for a third season.
The coming-of-age adventure drama has captured hearts and minds in 190 countries on Netflix and CBC. Viewers who have come to love plucky outsider Anne will be delighted that the Anne of Green Gables adaptation is back for a third run.
Sixteen year-old Amybeth McNulty, who grew up in Milford, returns as the titular character who will also be 16 when we return to season three.
Showrunner Moira Walley-Beckett said Anne and friends can expect more romantic complications, bold adventures and dramatic discoveries.
Three-time Emmy Award-winner Walley-Beckett said: “I will explore important, contemporary themes that I hope will continue to resonate with, and inspire and uplift, our audience.”
Miranda de Pencier, Executive Producer said: “The character of Anne gives people permission to be themselves because she is so resoundingly herself. There are so many walls being built and so much fear growing in the world right now and Anne offers us a reminder that it’s okay to stay positive, be kind, and to dream, no matter how tough life gets – which is inspiration we all need.”
Anne with an E received 13 Canadian Screen Award nominations in 2018 – the most of any series nominated – and was awarded Best Drama Series for Walley-Beckett and de Pencier.
The series renewal comes shortly after the US and international debut of the series’ second season on Netflix in July. The third season will have ten one-hour episodes and is expected to begin production this winter for launch on Netflix and CBC later in 2019.
