The stories were flowing at today's Donegal Women in Business Network coffee morning.

What’s your story?

That’s the question communications consultant Sally Murphy challenged local women in business to answer at today’s meet-up.

As the founder of Murphy Communication, Sally is a creative strategist and business storyteller who has devised her own method for creating lasting business connections.

Sally shared her ‘Murphy Method’ during an entertaining and thought-provoking talk hosted by the Donegal Women in Business Network at The Base in Stranorlar.

Drawing from her life’s work in culture, creativity and marketing, Sally explained how emotional connections always trump facts.

She said: “When we look at business, facts are important, but you need to know who it is that’s standing in front of you and what my credentials are and what I know about story. You also need to know who I am as a woman, because that’s what is going to make me stand out to you, and what is going to allow you to connect with me. That’s what I want you to think about in your own business.”

‘Facts do not connect me with your business, emotional ties do’ – Sally Murphy

Sally advised local women in business to focus on connecting with their clients on a human level in this age of the Experience Economy. She outlined the customer decision journey, which shows that affinity and loyalty must not be neglected in order to keep a client coming back for more.

Sally tasked the group to find their own story, whatever their industry. She said that everyone has a ‘why’ in their business – the reason they do what they do.

By revealing the scientific impact of a good and authentic story, Sally inspired the group to theme their future strategies in a new way for enhanced customer connections.

The insightful talk was followed by networking sessions, where DWBN members were encouraged to open up and discuss their business mission, obstacles, client goals and, ultimately, their unique stories.
