Donegal Food Tours are celebrating a year in business by doing what they do best - a tour!

What a year it has been for the team at Donegal Food Tours, who have been travelling and tasting their way around the county, showcasing the best restaurants, bars, hidden gems and bringing food lovers directly to the doors of local producers.

Donegal Food Tours has grown to become an experience for locals and tourists alike. They are looking forward to a busy summer season, which all begins with a one year birthday this weekend.

Donegal Food Tours celebrate their first birthday on the 1st of June with a tour from Letterkenny to Downings, visiting 4 fantastic venues The Lemon Tree Restaurant, The Grape & Grain, Hooked at Donegal Boardwalk and Coffee Time. Doesn’t that sound delicious?

The aim of Donegal Food Tours is to promote the food scene in the county while taking in the exquisite scenery from rolling hills to crystal clear waters along The Wild Atlantic Way.

There are so many hidden gems in the hills of Donegal and what better way to discover this rugged county than on a luxury coach tasting a multitude of produce from land and sea.

According to the tour organisers, it is time for Donegal food, venues and producers to shine.

There have been some really exciting awards brought back to Donegal this year with Mairead Anderson of Killybegs Seafood Shack winning – Ireland’s Best Chowder at The All Ireland Chowder Cook Off in Kinsale in April and John Graham of Ballyholey Farm receiving an award in the Craft section of Euro Toques Food Awards on Monday.

While earlier in the year Harvey’s Point Hotel won – Top Hotel in Ireland at The Travellers Choice Awards 2019 and Breac House won – Best Irish Breakfast Menu at The Georgina Campbell Awards in February.

These are just a few examples of how far Donegal has come in the last few years.

The Donegal Food Coast, which is part of the Local Enterprise Office, have been a real driving force in putting Donegal food on the map and will work closely with Failte Ireland this year with the launch of their Food Experiences.

Together with The Food Coast, Failte Ireland and the passionate chefs, producers and food businesses in the county, Donegal Food Tours aim to leave no stone unturned and no produce kept a secret any longer!

Donegal Food Tours currently run tours in two areas, North Donegal and South West Donegal and plan on opening a route in Inishowen in the not too distant future.
