Hundreds of kind donators have rallied around a Donegal family after they received the devastating blow that their little girl’s cancer has relapsed.
Over €10,000 was raised this week for nine-year-old Kaitlyn Glackin as she faces a challenging year of treatment for leukaemia.
Life was only starting to get back to normal for Kaitlyn and her parents, Aidan and Sarah Jane, when they discovered that the cancer she first battled at the age of four had returned.
Kaitlyn suddenly relapsed a few days before Christmas and has been in Dublin since.
“It was just out of the blue, it really turned their lives upside down,” said Orla Campbell, a family friend of the Glackins.
Orla set up a GoFundMe page last week to support Kaitlyn’s family and help them cover the costs of sharing their time between Dublin and Donegal.
“They are heartbroken and I wanted to do something to help them out. They have enough on their plate to be worrying about with the treatment,” Orla said
Over 230 people quickly rowed in behind the campaign to offer support to the popular local family. The generosity has been amazing, Orla said, while she hopes it will give the family strength on the road ahead.
Kaitlyn underwent two and a half years of therapy when she was first diagnosed with cancer five years ago. “She was only getting her wee life back,” Orla said, when the bad news came again.
Orla is full of thanks to every person who has given the fundraiser an amazing start to help a special little girl and her family. If you would like to donate, please visit: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-kaitlyn-and-her-family
