Because of our modern lifestyles, we have become very inactive in our daily lives.
Most people struggle to get 5-6 thousand steps in per day.
When you see that 10k steps per day is classed as being moderately active, you can see that the need to be more active is more important than ever right now!
So, with that being said, let me introduce you to the 10 FLIGHTS PER DAY CHALLENGE!
What is it I hear you ask?
Well, it isn’t an all-out holiday booking spree, so bad luck Wifey 😉
The challenge is very simple.
Each day for the next week, when the opportunity arises, you must take the stairs to where you are going.
So, instead of taking the lift or the escalator, you would choose the stairs every time until you get your 10 flights of stairs done each day.
We aren’t looking for you to run up a multi story building here.
But, with it being Ireland, for most of us, the buildings you live or work in might only have 1 or 2 flights of stairs in them.
So, you would just count going up and back down as 2 and then you have to get 8 more in throughout the day.
You are getting your steps in.
You are getting some cardio in.
You are getting some resistance training in for the legs
But, most of all, you are being more active throughout the day.
This is hugely important for your health and longevity.
Being active can improve your health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease and obesity.
It can also have long-term health benefits and can help improve your quality of life.
So, there is no downside to taking part in this challenge apart from breaking the habits you have of ALWAYS taking the lift or the escalators.
So, on this Blue Monday, let’s break old habits and start to make healthier new ones that will help you in 2020.
