A team of talented women is preparing to celebrate female power on the stage this International Women’s Day.
Leading Ladies will be a first-of-its-kind cross-border show linking women from Derry, Tyrone and Donegal for a night of music and drama.
Taking place in the Alley Theatre Strabane on 7th March, the show will be a look back through the decades of iconic female roles, scenes and songs from the stage and screen.
And it’s all in aid of a great cause – raising funds for Women’s Aid on both sides of the border.
Rehearsals are well underway with the 25-strong all-female cast, creative team and band.
Rebecca Thompson of Encore Performing Arts Academy is the leading lady at the helm of the production.
She had dreamt of doing a show themed on Women’s Day for years and decided to put the shoulder to the wheel and make it happen in 2020.
“Coming up with the name was easy,” Rebecca said, “We know plenty of women who love performing of any description.
“We put a call out to everybody, even though we have seasoned performers anybody could have gotten involved. A few people who are in the cast have never been on stage before.”
Rebecca is director, producer and choreographer, Herta Kelly is the MD, and Encore PAA team members Amy Callaghan and Caroline Barker are the assistant directors.
With an eclectic cast of women, exciting entertainment and a worthwhile cause to support, tickets for Leading Ladies are set to be in high demand.
