An outstanding Donegal woman is set to be honoured by His Holiness Pope Francis for her devotion to the church.
Kitty Kelly from Porthall has been announced as a recipient of the Benemerenti Medal – a direct accolade awarded by the Pope to members of the clergy and laity for service to the Catholic Church.
Kitty (89), an organist at St. Patrick’s Church Lifford, has served her local parish all her life.
Her dedication to the ministry of music is greatly valued in the Clonleigh Parish and her fellow parishioners were delighted to hear of her well-deserved honour.
A special Mass will be held at St Patrick’s Church on Friday 24th January at 7pm for the presentation of the Benemerenti Medal.
The main Celebrant will be Bishop McKeown who, on behalf of the Holy Father, will present Kitty with the rare award.
