There’s something that every young girl can benefit from in a Confidently Me workshop!
Letterkenny youth worker Laura Doherty has established Confidently Me to workshops combine fun, creativity and mental health focus to help teenage girls build confidence and self-esteem.
After two successful workshops in Kilmacrennan last year, Laura is back with two more workshops in Letterkenny this weekend.
The workshops are all about confidence and self esteem building in young girls, Laura explained.
“I run workshops for 2 different age groups, one for 11-12 year olds girls and one for teenage girls. The workshops are aimed at helping young girls be more aware of how to be confident in themselves.
“A lot of the time, young people don’t know what confidence or self esteem actually is so in these workshops we have group discussions while exploring the topic in other creative ways eg dance and make up masterclass.
“It’s a safe space for everyone and it’s fun and creative too. I give out some of my top tips which I like to call the ‘Confidence Kit’. It is also a nice way for young girls being able to connect with their peers and make new friends.”
Laura has years of experience in youth work, having spent four years in Canada working in summer camps and in a leading youth organisation. Laura has adopted the uplifting approach of Canadian youth work to bring extra positivity and emphasis on confidence and self-esteem back home.
Demand was high for a Letterkenny-based workshop this year, and Laura is delighted to have Andrea Emmett, dance tutor at Triumph Performing Arts, and Letterkenny make-up artist Fiona O’Connor joining the team as facilitators. Fiona will demonstrate two make-up looks for the girls, while Andrea will be getting creative by teaching a fun dance routine.
If this sounds like the perfect day for a young girl in your family or a young friend, why not recommend the Confidently Me workshop? Tickets are €35pp, with lunch included. For bookings, contact the Confidently Me with Laura D Facebook page.
