A young Letterkenny woman has donated an amazing €3,000 to Letterkenny University Hospital following a successful summer challenge.
Emily Hanley (aged 21) ran 100KM in June to raise support for the hospital in memory of her grandparents.
Emily sadly lost both her grandmother and grandfather in the space of five weeks in March and April this year. The outstanding care that was given to her ‘Nana’, Dorothy Hanley from Ramelton, and her ‘Gaga’, Joe Mc Ginley of Glencolmcille, inspired her to give back to the nurses and patients of Letterkenny University Hospital.
Emily, a novice road runner, ran through all weathers to gather funds for the LUH Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Care Unit.
She proudly presented a €1,500 cheque to staff from both units this week.
The good news is that the challenge hasn’t put Emily off running either!
“I was exhausted by the end of it. Now it’s a new hobby for me and I ended up loving it,” she said.
“I would like to thank everyone who donated and liked and shared my page. I haven’t got around to thanking everyone because there are some anonymous donations but I want everyone who donated to know it was greatly appreciated.”
