The Moville community enjoyed a fashionable Friday with the stars last weekend in memory of a very special girl – Amelia Mullan.
Schoolgirl Amelia (aged 6) passed away in a tragic car accident last August, which also claimed the lives of her big brother Tomás (14) and father John (49).
October 8th was Amelia’s second heavenly birthday, and in her honour, her mother Geraldine and friend Kathy Donaghy celebrated all the things Amelia loved most – fashion, fun and style.
The ‘Amelia’s Glad Rags for HOPE’ fashion show took place in the Mullan HOPE Centre in Moville, which was opened earlier this summer by Geraldine.
The fundraiser was a sparkling success, with celebrity presenter Miriam O’Callaghan volunteering to MC the night. Special guests included Donegal Person of the Year, Noel Cunningham, Fashion Editor of Irish Independent, Bairbre Power, and makeup artist Annie Gribbin.
The McElhinneys creative team worked their magic on a polytunnel at the Mullan Centre of HOPE. They transformed the venue into a night garden themed wonderland in keeping with Geraldine’s beloved husband John and his love of nature and planting new life. McElhinneys were also proud to dress Geraldine for the evening and provide looks for the catwalk along with other local boutiques.
Guests enjoyed giveaways, gifts and plenty of partying in celebration of Amelia’s love of all things glamorous.
Geraldine has issued a big thank you to everyone who made the show so special.
She said: “THANK YOU…..2 words, but sent with humility, sincerity and gratitude from the bottom of my heart to each and everyone of you for making Amelia’s Glad Rags for HOPE the success it was on Friday night. Although my heart was breaking Friday as it does every second of every minute of every day, missing my little girl Amelia on what would have been her 8th birthday, it was the most fitting heavenly birthday tribute to her, and I know she alongside my beloved John & Tomás were smiling down on all of us.
“The atmosphere was just magical, beautiful and idyllic….though we only came up with the idea a month ago, it was because of the wonderful Kathy Donaghy & as my beloved John said ‘plant a seed and see what grows…’ anyone we asked or approached just got behind us and helped us create a magical night garden where we had the most amazing night of fashion, fun, & magical memories!!!”
Geraldine added: “I close my eyes and can see my John smiling saying ‘darling there were weeds in those tunnels, now there’s ladies in posh frocks in my poly tunnel…’…Tomás would have been in the midst of it making sure everything ran smoothly & my wee angel Amelia would have been the first one on the catwalk, probably doing a cartwheel while strutting her stuff in her little fashionista style that was so unique, beautiful and gorgeous!!! I’d like to think there were three bright stars shining in the sky Fri night, looking down on us all & heaven had it’s own catwalk celebrating Amelia’s birthday.”
