The women’s only multi-sport fun challenge, which was to have taken place on Sunday, October 9th, has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 29th, 2023.

The event, which is the brainchild of Arthur McMahon, Managing Director of Donegal Oil Company, will take place at the Gartan Outdoor Education and Training Centre in association with Donegal Sports Partnership.

Speaking at the launch of the event earlier in the year, Arthur said: “My initial aim for Team Donegal Oil was to try and encourage everyone to ‘have a go’ and participate in outdoor activities and events for our better health and mental health. It’s great that so many have signed up for the challenge.”

Confirming the new date for the event, which comprises a 5km walk/jog/run, a 20km cycle, and a 1km kayak, Donegal Sports Partnership Coordinator, Myles Sweeney, commented: “We had thought about putting it on in a couple of weeks’ time. But given that we’re into the shorter days and longer nights, and poorer weather increasing the chances of frost and snow, we decided the best thing to do was to put it back to the Spring of 2023.”

“This will allow those who have signed up the chance to kickstart their training again in January and work towards race day at the end of April. By the time April 29th comes around, hopefully, all the participants will be well prepared for what will be a memorable and enjoyable experience for them all,” he added.

All proceeds from the multi-sport fun challenge will go to two Donegal women’s charities, Donegal Women’s Centre and Donegal Women’s Domestic Violence Service, while Nikki Bradley from Triathlon Ireland and the Motivation Factory is the event’s brand ambassador.

The event sold out within a matter of days after attracting over 200 entries.
