Majella O’Donnell’s mother, Marion Roche, has passed away.

Mrs Roche passed away surrounded by family at St Mary’s Nursing Home in Galway yesterday.

Majella’s husband Daniel shared a heartfelt tribute with fans today, describing Marion as a lady who will be dearly missed.

“Marion was a beautiful person,” he wrote.

“Many who met her often referred to her as ‘A Lady’. I was blessed to have her as my mother in law. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. May she rest in peace.”

The singer also paid tribute to ‘the wonderful staff’ of St Marys for the great care Marion received since going to live there, and especially in her final days.

“The care and compassion shown to Marion and indeed her family was second to none.

“Our thanks also to all the staff at Galway University Hospital for their care of Marion during her recent stay there.”

Majella’s father Tom Roche passed away in 2013 in Tenerife. Tom and Marion ran a bar and restaurant on the Spanish Island, where Daniel met his future wife. Majella was helping at the bar one night in 1999 when Daniel came in with friends for dinner. Majella’s mum asked her to sing to entertain their guests, and it was then that Majella caught Daniel’s eye.

Condolences have been shared from near and far to Majella, her two sisters and brother, on their heartbreaking loss.
